LG Cinema Screen

January 9, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

CES 2012 will be the place where LG Electronics introduces their latest LG Cinema Screen Design that will see action in a range of new Cinema 3D Smart TVs that are headed your way this year. The bezel of this Cinema Screen has been reduced to a mere 1mm, resulting in a more optimal and comfortable environment especially for immersive 3D viewing. According to Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company, “The 3D experience is still evolving and we at LG intend to push the limits of what 3D can deliver. With our 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, we have been able to take a significant step forward, thanks to a series of new and upgraded 3D features led by the CINEMA SCREEN Design.”

A bezel of just 1mm is certainly something interesting to look at – if you can see it, that is, considering how slim it is. The removal of such physical obstructions will pave the way for a greater immersion of 3D effects, making you think back of how watching a 3D movie in the cinema felt like for the first time. LG will make sure their new Cinema Screen Design is accompanied by the new Cinema 3D glasses that are being slated for a 2012 release as well, where the latter will feature a trio of elegant-looking models that are 20% lighter compared to its predecessors, increasing the comfort level so that you can enjoy 3D movies longer than ever before.

This kind of optimal setting is perfect for immersive 3D viewing, and when one applies the theory of 3D TV technology, Dual Play has been slated to be the suitable solution for an ultimate gaming experience. The introduction of LG’s Dual Play function and the special Dual Play glasses will enable players to view two entirely different full images, compared to the traditional split screen display where you only have halve the screen to focus on. In addition to that, 3D Sound Zooming will generate audio output so that it will be synchronized with the location and movement of the various on-screen objects, enabling immersive sound to complement immersive visuals.

Needless to say, the new Cinema 3D Smart TVs will be equipped with LG’s Smart TV function that sports over 1,200 apps, while you are also able to enjoy premium content services like 3D World, immersing yourself in an abundance of 3D content – as long as you are willing to fork out the dough, that is.

Acer GN245HQ monitor with HDMI 3D support from NVIDIA

February 9, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Acer’s already rolled out a few 3D-capable monitors (among other products), but none quite like it’s new GN245HQ model, which the company notes is the “first 3D monitor in the world” to support NVIDIA’s HDMI 3D solution. That means you’ll be able to view 3D content from a connected set-top box or Blu-ray player in addition to a PC connected via DVI-DL, and do so with the included active shutter glasses that work in conjunction with the monitor’s built-in IR emitter. As for the monitor itself, you’ll get the usual 1920 x 1080 resolution and 120MHz refresh rate, along with a 2ms response time, a pair of built-in 2W speakers, and LED backlighting that uses two lamps instead of four for a promised 68% savings in power consumption. No official word on a US release just yet, but you can look for this one to hit the UK in mid-March for £419.99 (or about $675).

If you’ve been rocking out to SlingPlayer on your laptop, this is pretty good news. SlingPlayer for iPad is now available for $29.99 from the app store. Yeah, you read that right. $29.99. But hopefully if you love Sling the way most people love Sling, this will be a small price to pay.

Not much else to say. If you’ve used SlingPlayer, or any other media player/DVR for that matter, you’re looking at the same features. Sling, obviously, allows you to transfer video from your own set-top-box to any other device, including browsers. It works with the Slingbox SOLO or PRO-HD.

gtx 580 review

It might not be November 9 all around the world yet, but NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 580 has already had its spec sheet dished out to the world, courtesy of CyberPower’s seemingly early announcement. The new chip will offer a 772MHz clock speed, 512 processing cores, and a 192.4GBps memory bandwidth, courtesy of 1.5GB of GDDR5 clocked at an effective rate of 4GHz. CyberPower is strapping this beast into its finest rigs, and for additional overkill it’ll let you SLI up to three of them within one hot and steamy case. Now let’s just wait patiently for midnight to roll around and see what the reviewers thought of NVIDIA’s next big thing.

Update: CRN has a $499 price for us and a recital of NVIDIA’s internal estimate that the GTX 580 bests the GTX 480 by between 20 and 35 percent. It seems, however, that the embargo for this hot new slice of silicon is set for early tomorrow morning, so check back then for the expert review roundup.

Update 2: Lusting to see one on video? How about two side by side? Skip past the break for the eye candy

Blackberry Playbook Price

September 28, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

We have reported on the key features of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, but one thing that wasn’t mentioned at the BlackBerry developer Conference was price. We have an article now, which suggests that RIM’s latest device won’t come cheap.

The article in question comes from Zdnet, who have stated that the BlackBerry Playbook may come in at $1000 or even higher. This may seem slightly outrageous to the average consumer, but don’t forget that the PlayBook features some specs which are not available in the market at the moment.

An example of this has to be the surprise inclusion of a dual-core CPU, consisting of two 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processors. This is a first for the tablet world, although this is expected to become more mainstream during the middle of 2011, according to Zdnet.

If you were thinking that the price would come in alongside the iPad to compete, think again. The Playbook comes with 2 HD cameras: a 5MP on the back, and a 3MP on the front with both having support for 1080p Video Recording – In a word, impressive.

The spec-heavy PlayBook warrants a much higher price than the iPad, so don’t be too surprised when RIM slap a $1000-1300 price tag on their new device.

BlackBerry PlayBook

September 28, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Research In Motion today redefined the possibilities for mobile computing with the unveiling of its new professional-grade BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. Perfect for either large organizations or an “army of one”, the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to give users what they want, including uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, while also providing advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a breakthrough development platform for IT departments and developers. The incredibly powerful and innovative BlackBerry PlayBook is truly a game-changing product in the growing tablet marketplace.

This beautifully designed and incredibly powerful tablet is ultra portable, ultra thin and super convenient for both work and play. Measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing less than a pound, the BlackBerry PlayBook features a vivid 7″ high resolution display that looks and feels great in your hand. With such a unique mix of utility, performance and portability, you’ll want to take it everywhere. The BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to be available in retail outlets and other channels in the United States in early 2011. Further information is offered below:

At its heart, the BlackBerry PlayBook is a multitasking powerhouse. Its groundbreaking performance is jointly fueled by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and the new BlackBerry Tablet OS which supports true symmetric multiprocessing. Together, the abundant processing power and highly sophisticated OS enable the BlackBerry PlayBook to provide users with true multitasking and a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen experience for apps and content services.

With support for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, Adobe® Mobile AIR® and HTML-5, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides customers with an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience and offers them the ability to enjoy all of the sites, games and media on the web. For more than a decade, the mobile industry has worked to bridge the gap between the “real web” and mobile devices through various apps and technologies and, in fact, a significant number of mobile apps today still simply serve as a proxy for web content that already exists on the web. The BlackBerry PlayBook closes that gap and brings the real, full web experience to mobile users while also opening new and more exciting opportunities for developers and content publishers.

The BlackBerry PlayBook features premium multimedia features to support high-quality mobile experiences. It includes dual HD cameras for video capture and video conferencing that can both record HD video at the same time, and an HDMI-out port for presenting one’s creations on external displays. The BlackBerry PlayBook also offers rich stereo sound and a media player that rivals the best in the industry.

For those BlackBerry PlayBook users who carry a BlackBerry smartphone*, it will also be possible to pair their tablet and smartphone using a secure Bluetooth® connection. This means they can opt to use the larger tablet display to seamlessly and securely view any of the email, BBM™, calendar, tasks, documents and other content that resides on (or is accessible through) their smartphone. They can also use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data. This secure integration of BlackBerry tablets and smartphones is a particularly useful feature for those business users who want to leave their laptop behind.

Key features and specifications of the BlackBerry PlayBook include:

* 7″ LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch and gesture support
* BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing

Alienware now shipping 23-inch OptX AW2310 1080p 3D monitor

January 29, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Just a hunch here, but we're guessing that Alienware's CES stash all hit the production line at right about the same time. During the past day, we've seen the company's M15x, M17x and OptX AW2310 hit the shipping stage, the latter of which is the firm's first-ever 3D monitor. Checking in at 23-inches and boasting a full 1080p panel, this one also packs a 3 millisecond response time, 120Hz refresh rate and stereoscopic support when NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Vision Kit is utilized. It's up for order right now at $469, but if you follow that Logicbuy link down there, you'll be able to snag it (for a limited time) for $449.10. Too bad that 3D kit will set you back another $200, but hey, no one said that witnessing the third dimension was cheap. Or remotely interesting. But mostly cheap.
