India is getting a second government-sponsored tablet. The first model (the so-called Aakash) sold out in just a few days after it was launched online last week, but maker DataWind has already followed up with another 7-inch model, the Ubislate 7. It was actually announced a few weeks back, but is now available for pre-order, priced at US$57 (US$10 more than the original Aakash), and features much better specs.
The Ubislate 7 comes with the following features:
* Android 2.3 (Aakash: Android 2.2)
* 7-inch touchscreen with 800×480 resolution
* Cortex A8 – 700 MHz CPU (Aakash: Arm11 – 366MHz)
* 3 hours battery life – thanks to the new 3200 mAh battery (Aakash: 2100 mAh)
* Wi-Fi and GPRS connectivity (the Aakash was Wi-Fi only)
* HD video playback
* 256 MB RAM
* one USB 2.0 port
* 2GB internal storage, which can be expanded to 32GB via microSD
Customers in India can expect to lay their hands on the Ubislate next month. DataWind will produce, via QUAD Electronics in Hyderabad, about 1,000 units daily.
Google and LG working on a “Nexus Tablet”
March 28, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
We’ve had Google Android phones since late 2007 and the first Google phone came from working with HTC on the Google Nexus One which launched last year. This year the Google Nexus S arrived from Google and Samsung. So they like to partner up. The latest rumor is that Google is working on its first Nexus-branded tablet with another friend.
According to Mobile Review, Google is working with LG on a Google Nexus Tablet. Of course this tablet will run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it might launch as early as this summer or early in the fall. It is likely that Google would make sure that the tablet would get software updates earlier than third party tablets.
That’s about all we know right now. It may be nothing or it may be completely accurate. We will see.

Some pictures (renders) of the new Palm webOS based tablets have leaked. What we understand is that HP will soon announce the Topaz and Opal tablets.
The Opal will measure 180 x 144 x 13mm and have a 1024 x 768 resolution display that will use TFT LCD screen technology. The Topaz will be a larger model that measures 241 x 190 x 13mm which will be a similar size to the Apple iPad.
Each tablet is expected to launch with a Touchstone charger to keep the device wirelessly charged. As well as acting as a charger, it will also be handy for a stand to allow the tablet to show picture streams etc…
Cloud computing is expected to be part of webOS for tablets in that users will get somewhere between 25GB to 50GB of online storage for free which in turn, will allow users to store music, video and other files in the cloud to stream when needed to the device.
Adobe Flash is expected to be installed as well as multitasking.
